About Disability SA

Supporting people to build independence, participate in their communities and work towards meaningful goals.

Who we are

Disability SA provides disability support, therapy, employment, respite, advocacy and inclusion services across South Australia.

Our approach is centred on the individual. We work alongside participants, families, schools, workplaces and communities to build capability, confidence, participation and independence.

Our three pillars

Advocate. Educate. Celebrate. These three pillars guide how Disability SA works with participants, families, workplaces and communities.

  • Advocate: championing the voice, rights and choices of people with disability.
  • Educate: building knowledge, skills, confidence and inclusive practice.
  • Celebrate: recognising strengths, individuality, achievement and meaningful participation.

Professional standards and registration

Our Developmental Educators are registered with Developmental Educators Australia (DEA), the self-regulated professional body for Developmental Educators. Our Developmental Education practice is guided by DEA professional standards, scope of practice and Code of Ethics.

Our approach

Our work is informed by neuro-affirming and trauma-informed practice, recognising individual strengths, experiences, communication preferences and support needs.

  • Person-centred and strengths-based support
  • Respect for individual choice, goals and preferences
  • Practical capacity building
  • Collaboration with families, schools, workplaces and other supports
  • Commitment to inclusion, dignity and participation
